Checking for new posts that you may wish to comment on - At the bottom of the homepage, in the forum information and statistics section, there are handy links to recent posts and recent threads.
Checking threads you've already posted on - By clicking your profile, there's an easy way to keep track of posts you've made and threads you've posted on, to check for replies that may be of particular interest to you.
The shout box - This feature allows you to post brief messages that other users should be able to see at the bottom of their page, no matter where on the site they are. It could be useful for sending or receiving a quick short message, particularly when the forum's at its busiest.
The news ticker (just below the homepage banner) - Another feature, that could be quite useful, I find. As admin, I can easily edit it to contain relevant news and I'll try to keep it mostly updated with forum / wildlife news. Members are, of course, welcome to pm me should they be aware of any recent news to share with the forum, for me to edit in. It could come in handy if a member has a good, legitimate reason for extra attention being brought to a thread he or she has just posted on.
Though I've not had the time to check, I presume for most of the above features a member will have to be logged in (except for the news ticker, that I'm pretty sure guests can also see).
I hope users have a play with these things and find them useful. The last two I can certainly disable if they're not of any benefit to anyone. Be sure to let me know your opinions on them.
