The book before the film

Sometimes I worry that people may think I've never lived.
For instance, I'm pretty sure i've never had the satisfaction of saying, "Well, I think the book was better than the film". I usually tend for one or the other. The other (being seeing the film adaptation) usually wins hands down every time!
But all that may soon be about to change!
A few years ago, a neighbour who I tend to look out for lent me the odd book of his. He's a bit of a supernatural horror nut (the kind of book I'd probably never buy / loan from a library). So I read a few Stephen King films that I've not seen the film of, along with a couple of James Herbert who recently passed to the other side, sadly. He lent me a Dean Koontz novel or two, but these weren't that good.
Anyway, in a moment of quasi-supernatural-randomness, he offered me 3 more Dean Koontz books - this time to keep - the Odd Thomas series. So, I put them in a cupboard for a few years to germinate. A few weeks ago, on a film streaming website that I really shouldn't name, I came across a film by the name of Odd Thomas. I read the blurb but ended up not streaming it (not all the streams work, hopefully it wasn't for this reason).
A few days ago, climbing up the walls due to the fact my data allowance from my computer had run out, the idea came to me to peruse my book collection, see if there was anything I could get stuck into for a few days (I wasn't thrilled at the prospect, at the outset, as I know most of my books are of the scientific persuasion).
I came across the first of the Odd Thomas books, read the blurb on the back and thought "This doesn't sound too bad!"
So, I started reading it, and what a book it is!
As site users may / may not be aware, I now have my data allowance topped up sufficiently, so I could go straight to the film (for the ending) if I wanted.
It's just it seems better now to wait. The excitement is just about bearable. But bear it, I shall! (I hope.)
So, I think this will be pretty much the first piece of fiction I've enjoyed in the correct order.
And I'll be able to be a the-book-was-much-better snob (for the very first time)!
What does the rest of the forum think about fiction and its formats (ie. book / film)? Any great preferences / idiosyncrasies?
